Idaho Falls is the largest city in Bonneville County and is a clean, prosperous, friendly community with a population of about 52,000. The cost of living is still very affordable, with a great quality of life, a low unemployment rate and a skilled and educated work force drawn from the city itself and surrounding communities.
When compared to other cities and metro areas of the West, Eastern Idaho's cost of living is generally lower. For necessities such as groceries, housing, healthcare, utilities and transportation, costs in Eastern Idaho are often 20 to 50 percent less than in other areas. For example, the average home in Idaho Falls is priced at $261,814, while in Los Angeles, CA and Denver, CO the average homes prices are $853,900 and $353,064, respectively.
Those who prefer small town or rural living in the Blackfoot and Shelley areas have easy access to I-15 and a quick commute to the city. Idaho Falls ranked in the top ten on Inc. Magazine's list of "Hottest Small Cities" in the United States.
The local Idaho Falls newspaper is the Post Register. Registration is required to view news articles, but access to classified and employment ads is free.
