Growth Continues in Rexburg
By Jill Margetts of Local News 8

Rexburg is exploding with growth. Several new developments are sprouting up all over town.
The changes are coming quickly especially after Rick's College turned into BYU-Idaho.
A two acre lot on 4th South will soon have a 32,000 square foot strip mall.
The owner of the land, Trent Birch, says he's been waiting to develop his land, "I bought the property back in 2000, and when BYU hit, I just kind of sat on it and waited for the population to come with the growth, and I think it's at the point now where we can build a nice strip mall on this side to take care of the people over here," said Birch.
He'll have to knock down his old motel called C.J.'s, two houses and two shops.
He says it's worth it because this brand new strip mall will go in on the side of town where there are hardly any commercial buildings.
"Instead of running to Albertson's or Wal-Marts, we'd have something on this side of town to service the people over here," said Birch.
Other signs of growth include the new extension of University Boulevard. It's paved and nearly ready to open to the public. It will officially open on November 15. The road will link Highway 20 to BYU-Idaho. Right now it's only two lanes but there is room to expand if needed.
University Boulevard is in phase one of a plan which will belt-loop the community.
Across the street from the new LDS temple a parking lot is being put in for temple patrons.
